DIY: Get Voluminous Lustrous Hair

Volumizing products can only give you temporary volume in your hair. Do you want your hair to be voluminous and shiny (not greasy) forever?, then keep on reading...

You Need:
Coconut Oil
Castor Oil
Olive Oil
Almond Oil

Coconut Oil strengthens hair. Castor oil makes hair voluminous. Olive Oil makes hair shiny (not greasy) and Almond Oil nourishes hair.

Directions:
Wash your hair at night with your chosen shampoo. Let your hair air-dry. Until your hair dries, prepare your oils. Mix all the oils together taking enough amounts depending on your hair length. Take all the oils in equal amounts. Then put the mixed oils in microwave bowl and heat it up to be warm enough to apply. Warm oil opens up the pores and will be absorbed effectively by the hair follicles. When ALL your hair dries, massage the oils in your scalp and apply the rest on your hair. Secure your hair tightly with a cloth, and leave it overnight.
Do this at least once a week and your efforts will definitely show on your hair. Take Care.

5 Ways to Dye Hair Naturally. Just Pick your Colour.

Dying hair whether at home or at salons, will definitely damage your hair. But doing it naturally will not cause any damage. You just pick the colour you want and give it a try :) I want you all to know that I don't promise, it will work effectively on everyone in just one go. You will have to try them at least 2 times to get the intense colour.

I haven't tried any of them yet. I would love to but I don't get time these days :(

Before trying out these hair dyes, make sure your hair is clean and without any products. If you are not feeling comfortable with the outcomes then test a small strand of your hair with these dyes.

1st Hair Dye:
Henna (Mehndi)
Check the colour chart HERE.

Directions:
Henna is PERFECT if you want your hair to be glossy, thick and long. DO NOT use henna dye that has chemicals in it and which is black in colour. You will find Henna in any Indian stores. Ask the shopkeeper if it is natural before buying it. Also buy the powder form of henna. If you are scared of the results, then test it on a small strand of hair and time it to check how long you should leave it for your hair colour choice. This will work only in 1 go.

Directions: Mix the powder henna with yogurt until its a yogurt like consistency. Let it sit overnight. Then in the morning put on plastic gloves and separate your hair in few parts depending on the volume of your hair. But averagely separate top + bottom head. Clip away the top part and apply the henna mixture in the bottom part. Do the same with the top. If you get henna on forehead, wipe it off because it will stain your skin. The stain goes away in a day or two. When you have got the henna applied, wrap your head with a piece of cloth that covers all your hair. It won't stain your bath tub so don't worry about that. If you are trying it for the first time then leave it on for only an hour and rinse it all out. Later if you want more intense colour then try it again and leave it on for longer. Wash your hair with a shampoo made for colour treated hair.

2nd Hair Dye:
Honey

Directions:
Honey bleaches your hair naturally so it is perfect if you want a lighter shade than your natural colour. Mix honey and yoghurt together to make it non-sticky. Take enough yoghurt to make honey non-sticky and take honey depending on your hair length. Apply it and leave it on for at least 2 hours. It won't work in 1 go, you have to do this for at least 3-4 times. Do this only once a week.

3rd Hair Dye:
Black Tea

Directions:
Black Tea gives your hair a darker shade than your natural hair colour. Brew 2 cups of strong tea. When its warm enough rinse with it. Take out the excess tea water and leave the rest on for 3-4 hours and then rinse your hair gently with pure water. Do this 3-4 times and you should notice the colour change.

4th Hair Dye:
Coffee

Directions:
Coffee gives you red and brown highlights in dark hair. Prepare 2 cups of strong coffee as you would to drink. Wash your hair with a good shampoo and then put this mixture in a small tub. Put the tub in your bath tub and dip your hair in it. Rinse your hair over and over again with the mixture from the tub with a glass or some container. Work the coffee thoroughly. Take the excess coffee mixture out and leave the rest in hair for 3-4 hours and then rinse with plain water. You should notice a few highlights after doing this 3-4 times.

5th Hair Dye:
Rhubarb Root

Directions:
Visit your local health store to get an access to buy Rhubarb Root. This plant lightens your hair from honey brown to blonde or light brown. It lightens any hair colour, a shade or two. Simmer the root in 4 cups of water in a glass or non metal pot for about an hour. Let it cool down and then strain it through a sieve. Put the mixture in a small tub and use this mixture to rinse your hair after washing it with a shampoo. Pour the mixture on your hair over and over again to get the colour. Rinse hair with 2 cups of pure water to get the mixture out and leave your hair to dry in sun so the colour comes out better.

You can also buy this hair dye which is made naturally. It is called Naturtint Permanent Hair Colourant. Click HERE to see. You can buy it online from the website or from any drug stores/health stores.

DIY: 8 Ways to Get rid of Black Knees/Elbow

Black Knees and Elbows is common in South Asian/African communities. And unfortunately I had them too :(. But how come Bollywood stars don't have them? I wondered and then I did a little bit of research and came up with 8 Natural ways to cure it.

I was a little ashamed of them and I couldn't wear short/skirts when I was 13 but now I wear them without being embarrassed of them. Knees and Elbows become dark because of dead skin cells. To get rid of these dead skin cells, you need ingredients that exfoliate and/or bleach dark skin Naturally.
After trying out these recipes, It is very important to MOISTURISE. Any moisturiser will work but I recommend cocoa butter or rub some olive oil on knees/elbows for better results. If you don't moisturise them then they will become darker.

1) You Need:
Baking Soda
Milk

Directions:
Mix enough milk to make baking soda a little damp. Apply the paste on knees or elbows and scrub it in circular motions. Repeat this until you notice, your knees have became lighter and when you are happy with it. I used to skip a day before doing it again.

2) You Need:
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Olive Oil

If you don't have turmeric, you may use baking soda. Mix them well together and Apply + Rub in Circular motions.

3) You Need:
Lemon
Gram Flour

Add enough lemon juice to make gram flour damp. Lemon is a Natural bleach and will reduce the darkness. Apply + Rub in Circular motions.

4) You Need: (I tried this one and it worked for me pretty well)
Olive Oil

Just rub the olive oil on knees. This oil has natural bleaching properties and will also make your skin glow. It is the cheapest way.

5) You Need:
Anything that exfoliates your body (loofah, exfoliating brush etc...)

Scrub your knees with loofah or whatever you have, when you are having a shower and scrub with them in circular motions.

6) You Need:
Really amazing moisturiser or cocoa butter or Shea butter

Dark knees/elbows are also caused by dry skin, so you need A LOT of moisturisers if you notice your knees/elbows are flaky.  {P.S Shea butter is the BEST moisturiser I have ever tried.}

7) You Need:
Sunscreen Lotion

Knees/elbows are most exposed in sun during summer. No doubt they will become dark if exposed without sunscreen lotion applied. You can use sunscreen lotion as a moisturiser and to lighten dark knees/elbows after shower.

8) You Need:
Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe Vera gel reduces dark scars/sun damage caused by over-exposure of knees/elbows. You can buy pure aloe Vera gel from any drug stores/pharmacies/health stores.

One of the tricks I used:
Take two strips of cloth that are wide enough to cover your knees/elbows and some olive oil. Apply olive oil on knees/elbows and massage it for 2 mins. Tie 2 strips of cloths around knees to keep the moisture in and leave them over night. In the morning, scrub your knees/elbows with loofah and wash off the oil in the shower. Moisturise your knees/elbows after shower and Repeat until you see results.

Hope it works for you guys. Take Care.

DIY: Gentle Exfoliators for Acne Prone Skin

If you have acne or pimples and you are afraid that exfoliating will make it worse.. Try this DIY natural exfoliator. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and open up the clogged pores by removing oils/dirt. Many exfoliating products contain alcohol which dries your skin making it look dull.

So it is best to use natural exfoliators especially if you have dry/sensitive skin.

  • If you have oily skin exfoliate 4 times per week
  • If you have dry skin exfoliate twice a week
  • If you have combination skin exfoliate 4-5 times a week
  • If you have sensitive skin exfoliate 1-2 times a week
Before exfoliating, wash your face with warm water to open up the pores.

1st Recipe: You Need: (For oily, combination skin)
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp honey

Apply it on the face and rub in circular motions.

2nd Recipe: You Need: (For dry, sensitive skin)
1 tbsp Rolled oats

Directions:
Put the oats in a small bowl and add water, enough to make the oats a little damp. Apply and rub in circular motions. You can also watch the linked video. DIY oatmeal cleanser/exfoliator

3rd Recipe: You Need: (For all skin types and this is my favourite one. I use it EVERYDAY)
1 tsp Bajri flour (I know you have probably never heard of this but you can find it in Indian stores)

It has grey-ish colour. Add enough water/milk to make it damp and rub in circular motions.

Personal Experience:
I have used this SO many times, like for 2 years and I LOVED it out of all the other exfoliators. It has these little grains which makes it perfect for exfoliating. And it is for all skin types so any of you guys can use it. Take Care.

Flatten Your Belly In One Week.

Season Food Differently

You may be attracted to your saltshaker, but water is too. When you take in higher-than-usual amounts of the salty stuff, you’ll temporarily retain more fluid, contributing to that sluggish feeling, a puffy appearance, and extra water weight. Avoid salt, overprocessed foods, and salt-based seasonings. Gans suggests you also ditch the frozen microwaveable meals while you’re de-bloating—they’re packed with sodium. Instead, she recommends a simple turkey sandwich or a salad with chicken for lunch this week. And eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that are packed with water.

Trim Down Carbs

Stay away from heavy carbs such as bagels and pasta. When you decrease the carbs in your diet, you temporarily train your body to access stored carbohydrates called glycogen and burn them off, while also eliminating excess stored fluids.

Trim back on your daily carbs by having eggs for breakfast, making your sandwich open-faced with only one slice of bread, and packing protein-rich snacks such as turkey slices, low-fat string cheese, seeds, and nuts.

Switch Your Starch

If your belly bulges after a high-carb meal like pasta, complex carbohydrate-rich foods may be the cause of your bloat, says Jackie Wolf, MD, author of A Woman’s Guide to a Healthy Stomach. Most starches, including potatoes, corn, pasta, and wheat, produce gas as they are broken down in the large intestine. Rice is the only starch that doesn’t cause gas, so have a ½-cup serving of brown rice (which has more fiber) if you want carbs with dinners.

Stop Milking It

If you’ve ever felt gassy, crampy, or bloated after dairy, you might have lactose intolerant. This occurs in people whose bodies lacks the ability to break down and digest the sugar in milk, resulting in digestive issues like gas, bloating, cramping, and diarrhea. Try lower-lactose foods (such as hard cheese or yogurt) or lactose-free dairy products (such as rice milk and almond milk), or take a lactase enzyme to help break down lactose. Dr. Wolf recommends soy milk as a dairy alternative but warns that some people experience gas and bloating from soybeans as well.

Make These Fruit Swaps

Wolf recommends you eat fruits that are kinder on your belly. Berries, grapes, and citrus contain a near-equal ratio of the sugars fructose and glucose, making them easier to digest than fruits with more fructose, such as honeydew, apples, and pears.

You can also eat canned fruits in natural juice or small portions of dried fruit, such as raisins and dried plums.

Hold The Hot Sauce

IF you love four-alarm food, lay off the Tabasco, barbecue sauce, and garlic for a few days while de-bloating. Spicy foods stimulate the release of stomach acid, causing irritation. Give dishes a flavor boost with in-season fresh or dried herbs such as dill, basil, mint, sage, tarragon, and rosemary. You can also use curry powder or lemon or lime juice—all perfect with fish or chicken. Also, steer clear of black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, chili powder, onions, mustard, horseradish, and acidic foods such as catsup, tomato sauce, and vinegar.

Ditch Diet Foods

Avoid low-calorie or low-carb products containing sugar alcohols, which go by the names xylitol or maltitol and cause gas, bloating, and worst—diarrhea. And don’t reach for a stick of gum when you’re trying to quell that sugar craving. Instead, satisfy your sweet tooth by using a little maple syrup on your morning oatmeal or yogurt snack.

Get On The Wagon

Steer clear of alcohol for the next few days to maximize your body’s belly-flattening capabilities. Alcohol causes dehydration and may slow your body’s ability to eliminate that excess weekend waste, so if you had a little too much to drink this weekend, start chugging the H20.

It’s best to eliminate that occasional glass of wine, beer, or hard alcohol this week while you’re on a skinny jeans crusade—all are high-acid beverages that can irritate your GI tract and cause swelling.

Do Some Activity Every Day

A study from Spain's Autonomous University of Barcelona suggests that mild physical activity clears gas and alleviates bloating. That's because increasing your heart rate and breathing stimulates the natural contractions of the intestinal muscles, helping to prevent constipation and gas buildup by expediting digestion. Take a short walk after meals or pedal lightly on a bike at the gym to help relieve bloat.

More Remedies For Belly Bloat

If you want extra belly-flattening aids, consider one of these products to soothe your belly problems.

• Get gas relief with an over-the-counter product such as Gas-X.

• Try peppermint capsules to kill bacteria that cause bloat and aid digestion.

• Stay regular by increasing fiber with flaxseed or a fiber supplement such as

Benefiber.

• Take a daily probiotic capsule. Dr. Wolf likes Align, Digestive Advantage

Intensive Bowel Support, and Pearls IC Intensive Care Probiotics.

DIY: cleanser+toner+moisturiser For Acne Prone Skin

This is a 3 in 1 All-Natural cleanser, toner and moisturiser for Acne proned skin. Yup, That's right. This facial mask is really good for those busy days when you don't have to waste time on slapping different products on skin for different purposes.

You Need:
2 tbsp of Organic Yoghurt ( with at-least 10% fat)
If you have oily skin then choose the yoghurt with no more than 10% fat.

Directions:
Wash your face and neck with warm water to open up the pores, so the skin can absorb nutrients. Also if you have time, try exfoliating face with a gentle exfoliator, because they remove all the dirt and dead skin cells that clog up pores. DO NOT use harsh exfoliators, as they will worsen the acne. (I will soon post DIY Natural Exfoliator for acne prone skin, so keep your eye on my blog). Then just apply the yoghurt on your face and neck if you want an even skin tone

Personal Experience:
I couldn't find any other ingredient better than yoghurt that you can use as a 3 in 1 facial mask. It is the BEST one I have tried so far. It has lots of vitamins and minerals that are skin-friendly. Applying on skin will also minimize those huge pores. I use this mask everyday and I see A LOT of difference. So I really recommend it. Its suitable for All skin types.

Research shows, even eating yoghurt helps acne. So stuff your snacks with yoghurt and give your skin a beautiful glow. Take Care.

Pushup That Really Pump You Up

The Classic

Good for: General upper-body conditioning

Balance your weight on your toes and palms, with your hands a comfortable distance apart, probably just beyond shoulder-width. Your body should form a straight line from your ankles to your head. Squeeze your glutes and brace your abdominals, and keep them that way for the duration of the exercise. Slowly lower yourself to the floor, pause, and push yourself back up. Repeat a few hundred times.

Variations: Three-point pushup (place one foot on top of the other to make the exercise a little more challenging); decline pushup (set your feet on a bench or chair to strengthen your shoulders); and triceps pushup (place your hands close together, directly under your shoulders, and keep your elbows tucked close to your sides as you lower your body—an adjustment that shifts the work from your chest to your arms).

Rotational Pushup

Good for: Athletic performance in sports involving torso rotation, such as tennis, hockey, and baseball

Assume the classic pushup position, but as you come up, rotate your body so your right arm lifts up and extends overhead. Your arms and torso should form a T. Return to the starting position, lower yourself, then push up and rotate till your left hand points toward the ceiling.

Variations: One-dumbbell (grip a dumbbell in one hand, rotate to the dumbbell side for half your repetitions, then switch the dumbbell to the other hand); two-dumbbell (grip dumbbells in both hands, and alternate sides when you come up).

Plank

Good for: Posture; midsection endurance and stability

Lie facedown, rest your weight on your forearms and toes, tuck your hips, and hold your body in a straight line from ankles to shoulders for 5 seconds. Do a total of 10 5-second holds.

Variations: When 5-second holds are easy, progress to longer holds, until you can stay in the position for 30 seconds. Next, try a regular push up position with your hips tucked. When you can hold that for 30 seconds, try it on your knuckles.

Suspended Pushup

Good for: Upper-body strength and stability

Wrap a pair of straps (or chains) around a chinup bar or the crossbar of a power rack. At the bottom, the straps should be about 12 inches off the floor. Attach gymnastics-type rings (or a straight bar) to the ends of the straps. Grab the rings and do pushups, being careful to protect your lower back by keeping your core and glutes tight—as you should when you do any variation of the pushup.

Plyometric Pushup

Good for: Developing upper-body power

Set up in the classic position on a well-padded carpet or exercise mat. Push up hard enough for your hands to come off the floor and catch some air. When you hit the floor, go immediately into the next repetition, pushing up again as hard as you can and catching more air.

Walking Pushup

Good for: Abdominal development; shoulder stability

Set up in the classic pushup position on a smooth floor, and place your feet on a towel. Walk with your hands across the room, turn, and walk back. Keep your back flat throughout the movement.

Barbell Pushup

Good for: Stability of midsection, shoulder; grip strengthGet into the classic pushup position with your hands on a barbell (the kind that can roll away if you don't keep it steady). Knock out the pushups, but not yourself—keep in mind that one slip can send you crashing teeth-first into the floor.

DIY: 7 ways to get rid of dark circles/ANY type of scar/Stretch Marks.

These 7 ways I am sharing, are the MOST EFFECTIVE ways that makes those ridiculous scars disappear, no matter what type they are (acne scars, tissue scars etc). Make sure you are NOT allergic to any of the ingredients I am going to mention.

1st Solution: (For dark circles and scars) You Need:
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp yogurt (at least 10% fat)
4-5 drops Lemon Juice
Directions:
You can find turmeric powder in any Asian/Indian stores. Mix the ingredients together in a small container and Apply it on the scar. Leave it on for as long as you can but at least more than 10 mins. It won't show results only in one go. Repeat the steps everyday until the scar is completely gone. Usually it takes around 2 weeks.

2nd Solution: (For Dark circles, scars and stretch marks) You Need:
Aloe Vera Gel
Directions:
You can find this gel at any drugs stores/pharmacies. Take some gel (depends on the size of the scar) and rub it on the scar in Circular Motions until your skin absorbs it.

3rd Solution: (For scars and stretch marks) You Need:
1 tbsp Virgin Olive Oil
1/2 tsp turmeric powder/ gram flour
Directions:
Mix them well and apply it on the scar. Leave it as long as you can. You can also rub ONLY olive oil and leave it on the scar overnight. It will be more effective.

4th Solution: (For scars only) You Need:
A slice of lemon
Directions:
Just rub it on the scar in circular motions. Do not rinse it off. Leave it over night and rinse it in the morning. Or leave it as long as possible.

5th Solution: (For dark circles, scars and stretch marks) You Need:
Cocoa Butter
Directions:
You can find this at any drugstores/pharmacies. They are pretty cheap. For dark circles, just dab it on the skin under eyes. For scars and stretch marks, rub it in circular motions until they disappear. Usually takes 2 weeks.

6th Solution (For scars and stretch marks) You Need:
Bio-Oil
Directions:
You can find these at any drugstores/pharmacies. Apply it as directed on the bottle. These are effective on very old scars.

7th Solution: (For Built up tissue scars, acne scars and stretch marks) You Need:
Silicone Scar sheets
OR
Cica care Gel Sheet
Directions:
These are a little pricey but VERY effective. Buy them from drugstores/pharmacies. Apply it as directed on the pack. These also work on those tissue scars which are built up from stitches or any wounds. Works excellent on stretch marks too.

I hope it works on you all. Take care.

Lose weight from a glass of homemade drink.

I have Two DIY home made recipes which helps you lose weight. This is a lazy way to lose weight. It burns hundreds of calories even if you are just sitting down on your computer. It also increases your metabolism which helps in weight loss.

1st Recipe. You Need:
2 tsp Honey
1 tsp Cinnamon
1cup/ 8oz/ 237 ml Water

Directions:

1) Use 1 part of cinnamon to 2 parts of raw honey. 1 tsp cinnamon to 2 tsp honey is recommended.
2) Boil 1 cup/8oz/237 ml of water.
3) Pour the boiling water on cinnamon. Cover it and let it steep until it is warm enough to drink.
4) Add honey when the water is cool/warm. Never add honey when it is hot as the heat will destroy the enzymes and other nutrients in the raw honey.
5) Drink 1/2 of this before going to bed. The other half should be covered and refrigerated and drink it in the morning. Do not re-heat it in the morning.

Do not add any flavours in this mixture. And this recipe only works if you drink it on empty stomach.
Scientists have researched on this and the beneficial effects of honey and cinnamon target the phenomenon of insulin resistance and the condition called metabolic syndrome. This recipe also helps people with diseases. I am not going to name them because there are hundreds of them.

I drink this every morning and night. My weight haven't moved over 48 kg because I need to gain some weight as per my height. I just drink it because its healthy.

2nd Recipe. You Need:
1cup/80z/237 ml of Pineapple Juice

Directions:
Just drink it. Pineapple contains bromelain which helps in weight loss. It is also good for skin and digestion. To include this in diet buy a smoothie which has pineapple in it or eat fruit salads. Add pineapple in anything and everything. Its totally worth it. Take care.
