Can't Sleep? 7 Food to Avoid

Aged Cheese
If a nap is in your future, steer clear of Parmesan, Romano, Asiago, and other hard cheeses (basically, all the yummy smelly ones!). The high levels of the amino acid tyramine are known to keep you up.

Milk Chocolate
The average milk chocolate bar contains tyrosine, which is converted into dopamine — a stimulant, says Cynthia Pasquella, CCN, CHLC, CWC. This causes alertness and restlessness, which can keep you up at night.

Spicy Foods
Those hot wings may taste damn good during the football game, but they aren't going to feel so great come bedtime — especially if you're prone to heartburn. Make sure you eat your favorite hot foods early enough in the day to prevent a sleepless night later.

Tomato-Based Sauces
Have that plate of pasta at least few hours before tucking in at night. Tomato-based foods have a tendency to cause acid reflux and heartburn, which will prevent you from having a good night's sleep.

Soy
Fermented soy products have some of the highest amount of tyramine — meaning soy sauce, tofu, miso, and even teriyaki sauce should be avoided hours before snoozing.

Herbal tea
Herbal teas are great for sleeping, but steer clear of ginseng. It's been shown to act as a stimulant, and though some tea drinkers don't feel any effects from the tea, others experience insomnia and hypertension. If you might fall in this category, avoid drinking it several hours before bed, recommends Pasquella.

Processed meat
Leave this one on the deli counter. Pasquella says processed meats contain high levels of tyramine and makes the brain release a chemical that makes us feel alert. These meats also aren't the healthiest ones to munch on either, sleep patterns aside.

The 10 Biggest Hair-Removal Mistakes

By Kayleigh Donahue, Allure.com

Mistake: Not Exfoliating
Exfoliating is your best defense against ingrown hairs—no matter what method of hair removal you choose. If you're already suffering from one, exfoliate the area with a gentle scrub.

Mistake: Contorting Your Face as you Tweeze
Tweezing your brow is not the time to start making faces in the mirror—whether it's flinching from the sting or just because you're trying to get a close-up view. "Lifting your brows distorts their natural shape and throws off the symmetry you want," says professional brow groomer Maribeth Madron. Try your best to relax your face as much as possible as you pluck and numb the area with an ice cube if you're concerned about the pain.

Mistake: Shaving First Thing in the Morning
Shaving at the end of a morning shower saves time but doesn't yield the smoothest shave. As you sleep, legs swell slightly, which can hide a portion of the hairs. Shave in the evening, and you'll get a closer finish.

Mistake: Shaving During a Hot Bath
Soaking in warm water make legs temporarily puff as well, so don't shave then, either (plus, it adds nothing to the relaxation aspect of a bath). If you're dead set on doing it in the tub, do it first thing: Waiting longer than ten minutes to shave will make your legs feel more stubbly than smooth.

Mistake: Shaving with a Dull Blade
"Many people let the same damn razor sit in the bathroom for days, weeks, months," says dermatologist Kathy Fields. "To get a really clean shave, you need a new blade, so go to Costco and buy them in bulk. Shave once with it and throw it away." (Other experts recommend up to four uses.) Not only will it get you a closer shave, but regularly replacing your razor blade is also one of the keys to preventing day-after red bumps.

Mistake: Skipping Shaving Cream
Not only will shave cream help prevent irritation from a razor blade, but it also will eke an extra half millimeter of hair, says Fields. Apply it against the grain of hair growth to make hairs stand up straight—this will get you the closest shave, recommends Claire Girdler, a scientist for Gillette Venus.

Mistake: Leaving Skin Vulnerable
Accutane and retinols work only if you use them religiously—but there's one important reason to halt your routine: getting a wax. Cindy Barshop, owner of Completely Bare Spas, says you should stop using Accutane the week before your appointment (the same goes for using a retinol anywhere you'll get a wax). They can make skin fragile, so the wax could take off layers of skin along with the hairMistake: Waxing too Frequently
You may be tempted to head straight to the spa—or worse, reach for the razor—at the first sight of stubble, but fight the urge. You should wait four weeks in between waxing sessions so the wax has enough hair to grab. Barshop says bikini-area and on-your-leg hair should be a quarter-inch long if it's fine; coarse hair needs to be a half-inch long.

Mistake: Improper At-Home Waxing Technique
When you get a wax at a salon, the process seems simple enough: spread wax, cover with fabric, rip. But if you attempt the deed at home, there is one key element to remember: Pull the skin taut in the opposite direction you're ripping the strip. If you don't, "you can end up with deep bruises," says dermatologist Leslie Baumann.

Mistake: Waxing at the Wrong Time of the Month
Perhaps your period is on your mind when booking a bikini wax, but it's something to consider no matter what body part you're trying to get hair-free—especially if you're concerned about pain. Hormonal shifts, extra blood flow—almost everyone feels more discomfort right before, during, and after her period.

The 7 Laws of Leanness

LAW #1: Lean People Don’t Diet
What? Of course lean people diet! They’re just magically better at denying themselves than the rest of us are, right?
LAW #2: Lean People Don’t Go Fat-Free
A European study tracked nearly 90,000 people for several years and discovered that participants who tried to eat “low fat” had the same risk of being overweight as those who ate whatever they wanted.
LAW #3: Lean People Sit Down to Eat
In fact, the more you sit down and enjoy your food, the leaner you’re going to be. Punishing yourself only makes you fat!

LAW #4: Lean People Know What They’re Going to Eat Next
Planning your responses to hunger may help you shed pounds faster, say Dutch researchers. They posed their subjects questions like “If you’re hungry at 4 p.m., then . . . what?” Those who had an answer (“I’ll snack on some almonds”) were more successful at losing weight than those who didn’t have an answer.

LAW #5: Lean People Eat Protein
In a recent European study, people who ate moderately high levels of protein were twice as likely to lose weight and keep it off as those who didn’t eat much protein.
LAW #6: Lean People Move Around
I don’t mean climbing Kilimanjaro, breaking the tape at the Boston Marathon, or spending 24 hours at 24 Hour Fitness. I mean going for a short bike ride (20 minutes burns 200 calories), taking a leisurely walk (145 calories every 51 minutes), wrestling with your kids (another 100 calories smoked in 22 minutes), or fishing (there’s 150 calories gone in an hour—even more if you actually catch something).

LAW #7: Lean People Watch Less TV
Instead of calling it the boob tube, maybe we should call it the man-boob tube. About 18 percent of people who watch less than two hours of TV a day have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more—the cutoff line for obesity, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But of those who watch more than four hours of TV a day, nearly 30 percent have a BMI that high, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.Read more at:

What your acne is telling you

This is actually my own personal experience. This technique works amazing. I learnt it from a YouTube video. So this is kinda what they call "Face Mapping." It basically tells you that why you are having acne for example, on your forehead the most. So here it goes..

Why do you get acne on forehead?
The main causes could be stress, not getting enough sleep and not washing hair too frequent. So to get rid of them from your forehead, make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep. DO NOT take any stress. Try to meditate and think positive to get rid of the stress. Wash your hair at least 3 times a weak and be careful if you are wearing hats, as they pass on those bacteria on your fore head, which causes acne. Also it could be poor digestion. So drink lots of water or you could drink green tea (it includes water and green tea is GREAT for poor digestion) or you could drink a lemonade but without sugar, which tastes disgusting but might work for you. I haven't tried lemonade but let me know if it works for you :) When you are using tweezers on forehead, make sure they are clean. Just wash them under hot water and they will be perfect.

Why do you get acne on temples?
Its because you are eating a lot of junk food and you need to reduce the amount of fat from your diet. Try eating fruits, vegetables that are cooling for your body. Like watermelons, cucumber etc..

Why do you get acne on nose?
You might be eating too spicy food like garlic, chilli, onions etc... So you need to make sure that you are eating a balanced diet and cut down the spicy foods. Also get more fresh air by exercising for e.g, go for a walk. And make sure you include Vitamin B in your diet.

Why do you get acne between your eyes and above your nose?
STOP eating foods 2 hours before you go to sleep. This is very important and it is one of the biggest cause of acne. I used to eat a lot before I go to sleep but since I stopped it, my face started to clear up. Or you could be lactose intolerance. So do not drink all the dairy products.

Why do you get acne on upper cheeks?
Stop smoking. Not only that affects other people's health but it also pollutes your own house. So throw away those cigarette packets. And keep a plant in your room which will remove the pollution from the environment in your house.

Why do you get acne on lower cheeks?
You need to keep your oral hygiene clean. Brush twice a day. Plus if you talk a lot on phones, the bacteria from your phone gets on your lower cheeks causing more pimples. So keep your phone away from your cheeks. Otherwise, you can clean your phone with anti-bacterial wipes. Sounds crazy huh.?

Why do you get acne on ears?
Drink more water and cut down the salt and caffeine in your diet.

Why do you break out on chin area?
It could be hormonal imbalance which you can't really help unfortunately unless you do meditation. Plus you are taking too much stress and not getting enough sleep. So make sure to balance it out. Meditate and sleep a lot. Your digestion could be poor so to improve it, drink lots of water and eat some yoghurt :)

Please let me know if these tips worked for you :) Take Care

DIY: 4 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads are caused by dead skin cells and sebum that turns black in colour because of exposure.
Why shouldn't you use products to remove blackheads? It's because lots of products have alcohol, menthol and eucalyptus, which increases oil production and this is where blackheads come from.
Here are some ways to get rid of them naturally :-

1) You Need: (This is like making your own pore strips)

    Egg White
Thin tissue paper (Kitchen tissue is fine)
Beat an egg white and make sure you don't mix the yoke with the white. Apply the egg white on, where you have blackheads and then cover it with 2 layers of tissue. Peel it off when it dries. You will obviously know when it dries. Rinse your face with warm water and the black heads should be gone.
P.S. I haven't tried it so please tell me guys if it worked or not :)

2) You Need:
    Tomato Juice
    Cotton Balls/sheets

Squeeze some tomato juice out. Take your cotton and soak it under warm water. Place the soaked cotton on the blackheads area and hold it there for at least a minute. Repeat soaking the cotton if it gets cold. This will soften the blackheads. Apply the tomato juice on and leave for 15 mins. Rinse your face with cold water to close the pores.

3) You can exfoliate your face every 3-4 days a week to get rid of them. To find a natural exfoliator suitable for your skin type, check out my blog post HERE and make your own exfoliator.

4) You can make your own pore strips at home without spending too much money. Check this video HERE to make them.

What I do to get rid of them, is simply exfoliate my skin naturally about 3-4 times a week. But for you, it depends on your skin. DO NOT try to scrap your skin in order to remove the blackheads. This will damage your skin really bad. Please tell me if you have tried any of these tricks and it worked for you. Your opinion really matters :) Take Care.

DIY: Get Gorgeous Even Tone Skin

Its been SO long since I have blogged and to be honest guys I didn't even touch my laptop for a week. I know its the saddest thing you have heard. Anyways lets get to the point. This is NOT about rubbing lemons although they work but also makes your skin EXTREMELY dry. I am going to share a home made recipe with you guys that you can use to get even skin tone. Some of us have amazing tanned bodies but then we worry about the "not tanned" parts you know. It looks horrible. So stay tuned if you want gorgeous even tone skin.

1) NEVER forget to use sunscreen lotion when wandering around in sun.

2) Cleanse and exfoliate your body thoroughly. Body Exfoliator: You Need :-
    Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    Salt
    Essential Oil (optional)

Directions:
Mix these ingredients together. Olive Oil cleanses and moisturises your skin naturally and salt exfoliates to remove dead skin cells. Essential oil like lavender oil is just to give your scrub a little bit of a natural fragrance. But its optional anyway. Rub the scrub in circular motions and then wash your body off with a shower gel.

Personal Experience: I tried this scrub and after using it, my skin felt AMAZINGLY smooth. It was like magic. None of the products ever worked like this scrub. There is no harm in giving it a try :)

3) Buy a body moisturiser with vitamin C because it helps to even out your skin tone. You can find these in drug stores or pharmacies.

Don't tan your body more in order to get rid of the uneven tone because it will make it worse. Take Care

How I Got Rid of My Acne (All DIY)

Hey Guys! Been a Long time because school just started :( Anyways.. I am posting my DAILY SKIN ROUTINE. Which works the BEST for me. I have tried many daily skin care routines and I found this one the most suitable for my skin type. Now, I have different skin than yours, so this routine might only work for the people with similar skin type to mine.

My Skin Type => Combination, Acne Prone (of course), and sensitive.
This is a step by step guide from day to night :-

Morning:
1) When you wake up, wash your face with cold water with any face wash you wish or if you are having a hot shower, make sure you splash your face with cold water. It wakes you up instantly and closes your pores, making your skin look healthy throughout the day. By the way, my favourite face wash is from The Body Shop called Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash.

2) Apply a moisturiser, even if your skin is oily. Skipping this part is one of the worse things you would do to your skin. I use Palmer's cocoa butter, because it also gets rid of acne scars which eventually disappears after 2 weeks.

3) I apply foundation to cover up. If you do too, then instead of using a primer, use 100% natural aloe gel as a primer. It is one of the best things I did to my skin, because Aloe Vera is INCREDIBLY amazing for skin. It can be use as a natural primer because the texture of it, is so smooth, it will give you a matte finish look.

Afternoon:
1) After you come back from work or school, around 4-5 pm, remove your make up. My best make up remover is EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL. It is good for ALL skin types and it works better than those chemical make up removers.

2) Then, exfoliate your skin. Check my blog post on making your own exfoliator for acne prone skin. Just pick one that is suitable for your skin type HERE. I use the Bajri flour as an exfoliator (mentioned in my exfoliator post).

3) Wash your face with a face wash to remove the excess olive oil and rinse it off with luke warm water to open up the pores.
4) Then, apply a face mask. Check out my DIY 3 in 1 face mask for acne prone skin HERE also I have a DIY mask to get rid of pimple overnight >> Click HERE. Leave any of the mask you pick, for at least half hour and rinse it off with cold water.

Night:
1) Wash your face with a face wash and rinse it off with cold water. If you have a pimple, then check out my honey mask to get rid of it overnight HERE. Just make sure before applying the honey mask on pimple, dampen a tissue in warm water and dab it on the pimple, so it will open its pore allowing the mask to work effectively.

So that is my basic skin care routine which works WONDERS for me. I hope it works for you too. Take care

Hottest New Fall 2011 Hair Ideas

Deep Side Part
Where we saw it:

Ralph Lauren (shown), Prada, Balmain.

How to get it:

A low side part instantly adds sophistication and drama. At the Gianfranco Ferré show, Guido used the technique to punctuate the '60s-inspired ponytails. After applying Redken SatinWear 02 Ultimate Blow Dry Lotion to the hair, he blew it dry with a boar-bristle brush, blasting the roots with extra hot air for additional height. He created a deep side part so the hair fell softly over the forehead and slightly over one brow, then gathered the hair loosely at the nape of the neck and secured it in place.

Hair Accessories
Where we saw it:

Valentino (shown), Rodarte, Prada, Chanel, Nina Ricci.

How to get it:

From ornate jeweled headbands to simple barrettes, hair benefitted from a little careful embellishment this season on the runways. At Valentino, Guido created a soft, low ponytail, and dressed it up by wrapping a black ribbon around the model's head as a sort of DIY headband, then tying it just below the ponytail. "It's easy, but has personality and glamour," Guido said.

Rumpled Texture
Where we saw it:

Balmain (shown), Chloé, Marni. How to get it:

There are always a few styles that work for the laziest girl out there, and the superlow, superloose ponytail at Balmain was the ultimate one. To get what he called "Kate Moss hair," hairstylist Sam McKnight spritzed the hair with water (the only product used), then mussed it up with his hands. He created a center part before gathering the hair into a low ponytail about an inch or two from the ends so that the models' long layers hung free

The Desquacrem

A deep biological cleanser of remarkable efficiency, Desquacrem has perfect affinity with the skin’s tissues, emulsifying biological waste accumulations excreted through the skin and the environmental pollutants the skin would otherwise absorb.

Desquacrem is designed to digest fatty excretions and disencrust the follicular orifice, enzymatically emulsifying waxy esters (oily impurities), comedones (blackheads) and milia (hard waxy deposits) accumulating deeper in the tissues. Desquacrem prepares the skin to absorb serums and treatment creams allowing for a more efficient utilisation of their active ingredients. A non-alkaline, pH balanced formulation that deeply cleanses the skin without the skin feeling stripped or tight.

The use of Gommage Exfoliant prior to the application of Desquacrem gives a double action peeling and deep biological cleansing in perfect synergy, increasing the efficiency of both products on all skin types.

Skin types: All skin types (except very sensitive/reactive skin), Normal-combination skin, oily skin, oil-congested (clogged) acne skin, hyper-pigmentation and ageing sun-damaged skin.

Twice weekly usage is recommended for normal skin. Oily congested skin can use Desquacrem up to three times weekly.

Benefits: Deep enzymatic action on fatty deposits leaving the skin brightened and lightened, assisting absorption of treatment serums and creams, can be used conveniently in the shower, and is easily taken when travelling.

Method: Using a small amount only (1/2 ml or size of a peanut) disperse Desquacrem over the entire face and neck area. Using wetted fingertips, massage for 2 minutes with brisk circular action. Then allow to penetrate for 2-3 minutes. Recommence to massage with wetted finger tips to bring the emulsification back to the skin surface. Using tepid water rinse off several times until the skin feels free of the product. For optimum results Desquacrem should be used following the SOTHYS Cleansing Milk, or Gommage. The SOTHYS Treatment Lotion should then be used after Desquacrem. Repeat this application technique for a second time in cases of very oily skin or congested comedones (blackheads) on the T-zone area. For normal/combination skin use twice a week. For oily/congested skin use three times a week.

DIY: Get Rid of Facial Hair in 2 Mins

Girls, I know it's extremely embarrassing for girls to have facial hair. But you are not the only one. If you have facial hair and want the EASIEST way to get rid of them, then

You Need:
A thread of 6 inches which I am sure everyone has at home.

Yes, its threading, but the way I do at home doesn't require an expert to do it and you don't need some one else to do it for you. This way, your facial hair will grow back in 2 weeks, so its almost like waxing but I wouldn't recommend anyone to wax their face, as it strips away the natural moisture in your skin and makes your skin red. It also removes hair from roots so in meantime, they will stop growing.

Directions:
1) Take the thread and tie both ends together.

Watch this video for further directions HERE because it is hard to explain in words.

The video is for eyebrows but you can do the same for upper lip.
After threading, just splash the threaded area with cold water and you are ready to go :) Take Care
