How to Look Great in Photos

Even Out
Apply face lotion to plump skin and soften wrinkles. Then cover undereye circles with concealer--the camera accentuates darkness. For color photos, which intensify red and blue tones, choose a pink- or peach-based cover-up; black-and-white enhances purple hues, so opt for yellow based. Avoid translucent powders, which have a colorless base--they appear pasty and zap color. Instead, use one that's yellow based.

Define
Facial features tend to seem smaller in pictures. Line your top and bottom lids using a charcoal, brown, or navy pencil; black is too harsh in photos. Use a lip pencil no more than two tones deeper than your natural lip hue to line and fill in lips.

Brighten
To keep the flash from washing you out, wear a foundation a shade darker than normal and dust bronzing powder over your cheeks, chin, and nose. Opt for matte formulations--anything too glimmery contains light-reflecting particles that can cause a glare. Color is also key: Choose a soft sand shadow for lids and a light pink for your lips.
